1. Don’t give in to mistakes.
In many cases, young people make mistakes and give free rein to their imagination. Some are attracted by the romance of the profession, and, moreover, they are drawn to its cinematic version without really getting to know the profession. Some follow their parents’ footsteps, believing that their destiny is destined for them. And someone else enters a university for completely different reasons, for example, to avoid losing a good friend. Still others, reluctant to go far, submit documents to a university close to home. All this is wrong. Choosing a profession is something that should not be taken lightly. Your future is directly related to it. On the contrary, try to approach this issue as seriously as possible.
2. The right attitude
First of all, you need to think deeply and make this choice of your own free will. Don’t listen to the advice of your parents and friends, it’s better to remember that this is your life, not theirs.
3. Determining flexibility
First, assess your interests. What kind of work do you want to do? What subjects do you like in school? What do you like to do in your free time? Is it easy for you to connect with people, especially strangers? The flexibility to perform a certain type of activity is of great importance.
4. Research
The main thing is to assess yourself properly, what do I want from myself and my work, what will I be like in five years. Try to learn as much as possible about your future profession, using all available sources of information. Go on a trip to see with your own eyes the activities of enterprises where representatives of this or that profession are engaged. Do you want to become a sailor? Persuade your parents to take a trip on a ship to get to know the days on the ship better. Do you want to become a programmer? Then not only enjoy playing computer games, but also learn to write simple programs. For example, if you dream of a journalistic career, it is better to get a job, even if it is a newspaper clerk. This way you will have the opportunity to get to know the profession of a journalist from the inside. When determining the suitability of one or another profession, a list is used.
5. Assess the situation in the labor market
The easiest way: get a few publications with job advertisements. Check out the job sites on the Internet to see what specialists are in demand. By comparing this data, you can determine which university or faculty will be most beneficial for you in the future. However, it is important to remember that market demand is constantly changing.
6. Seek help from professionals
If you have any doubts, seek professional help. You can consult with a school psychologist or a specialist in a psychological office.
7. Final choice
After gathering information, look at a list of 5-10 key points. Then use a tried-and-true method: take a sheet of paper and divide it into two columns. Use the elimination method. When you have three items left on the list, do some more detailed research and make a final decision.
Never let your destiny be determined by external circumstances. Don’t stay in one place! May your choice be successful. Spending a third of your life in pain at a job that is unattractive to you, going to work with absolutely no enthusiasm, spending the required time with disgust – is such a future satisfying for you?
